Challenge to Outbound Sales

  • Strategy
  • Sales

Thanks to Raku, I was able to hear a very valuable conversation, so I will write this down while the enthusiasm is high.

For a long time, microCMS has maintained the stance of not doing any sales at all with a Product-led Growth strategy.

MRR is growing steadily, but it does not reach the level known as T2D3.
Even though revenue is increasing, the growth rate itself is declining.
(As sales increase, the growth rate naturally becomes stricter)

Looking at global PLG companies, it's clear that even with PLG, sales are necessary.

ここ最近、スタートアップ界隈で急速に話題になっているのがProduct-Led Growth(PLG)だ。従来のセールス中心の売り方とは異なり、プロダクト中心の売り方となる。

High Pricing is Necessary for Sales

It is often said that low prices do not cover the labor costs of sales personnel.
A price of over 200,000 yen per month is required.

microCMS does not reach 200,000 yen even with the higher Advanced plan.

This means that sales inevitably need to capture Enterprises.

microCMS is a high-code product, and implementation by engineers is necessary when introducing it.
The larger the scale of implementation, the greater this cost will be.
At the Enterprise scale, it could take over a year for development.

This is a problem of excessive lead time.

This area is expected to be somewhat alleviated by microCMS templates.

There are numerous ways to undertake the development aspect or to outsource to partner companies.

In Any Case, Try Outbound Sales

Almost everyone in the company is an engineer, so sales are not their strength. They don't want to do it because they are not good at it.

I have been thinking of cool methods other than sales to grow the company.

So far, I have come this far without genuinely facing sales.

If we've gotten this far with inbound alone, there's no reason we can't do outbound.

The message is to just try.

A Product for Engineers

We have set the mission of creating 'tools for engineers.'

We also aspire to be the best group of engineers.

We take pride in creating products for engineers.

We never want to close our free plan or eliminate our pricing table.

We want to fight with a cool product.

We will only deliver the best products to the right customers through sales.

We want to continue focusing on the product while also actively challenging ourselves to sell.
